Performance Review

April 2022

We didn't have a huge number of runners over the course of the month so it was great to get two good winners on the board with a couple of lovely horses.

Stag Night has always been a nice type and I was delighted to see him start his season with a win in a competitive six-furlong handicap at the Curragh. I thought it was a good performance after a break and he's since been raised 5lb by the handicapper to a mark of 95. Hopefully he should have a good year ahead and that he continues to progress.

A great start to the season for Stag Night at the Curragh

A few days later we headed to Gowran Park and it was great to get Bay Of Bengal off the mark on her debut in a maiden. She looks a lovely filly for owner-breeders Ballylinch Stud and I'd like to head for a winners' race next before aiming to get some black type in due course

There was also a nice first start back for Life In Colour, who finished third in a fillies' maiden at Cork during the month. She's been fairly consistent so hopefully she can get her head in front before long.

Morning Approach ran a cracker when second in a ten-furlong handicap on the same card. She's owned by a great syndicate who are very sporting so it was unfortunate that the handicapper came down very hard on her for that effort. She ran well again on her next start at Naas, but probably needs to come down in the weights.

Hopefully there should be nice improvement to come from All Lies Ahead after she made a decent start to her career in a mile maiden at Limerick. We'll aim for another maiden with her at Killarney in the middle of May.

Fingers crossed we will have more runners to look forward to next month, when we'll be doing our best to get on the scoresheet again.
